Aren't washing machines oppressed enough to choose their own gender identity?
Constantin · 42w
It would go better with German, French has 2 genders instead of 3. πŸ˜‚ But it's feminine, just like in German.
Tauri · 42w
The gender of a washing machine in Bulgarian is female. 😏
Beerborn · 42w
Machines are oppresed by men that use them and dispose of them when they have no use for them anymore -> female

I wonder if Latin words in european languages also inherit gender from Latin in most cases. That would make life a bit easier, as shared Latin words would all have the same gender.

This tripped me up learning German, too. Nouns all have genders. And literally the word β€œgirl” is gender-neutral rather than gender-female, because let’s just make things as unintuitive as possible. https://blossom.primal.net/c392b7f4af960c408a178b57583ad1f05c055df6c6e3baa73bfdef38f91e9d21.j...

If I understand correctly, in Portuguese how something is said may depend on the gender of the speaker. Do other languages do this?
