#beekeepers - how much room in front of beehives is the minimum? Will 7ft of open space be enough, or should I leave even more? #beekeeping #asknostr

Boarder beds so you don’t have to weed whip the fence line?

Bees will find their way home. 7' is no problem.

You may want to face beehives away from the garden. Beehives have guardbees. If you are working in the garden you really don't want be in their line of flight leaving the hive.

That should be more than plenty 👍🏼

It depends how happy your hives are and how much stores they have. Now that I’m managing mine well I can (quickly) cut the lawn right up to and around both hives. In the past when they were a bit angrier I couldn’t work the garden 10ft away from them.

Just started keeping myself. That sounds like enough room. I've read that having a distinct feature such as a different color hive, beside a tree oo r feature, or even having a painted x or something different helps the bees distinguish their hive

That is plenty of room between hives, just make sure to leave enough honey in the hives for winter when food is less available. If they get hungry enough they will start robbing other hives or swarm looking for a new home.
