I always think of the Biosphere project of the early 90's... complete encapsulated dome with plants, trees, humans inside. The trees never experienced the stresses of wind and after a few months became weak, rubbery, and collapsed. Stress is necessary in life.

Also, remember to keep water away from the edges--it can upset/slump a foundation and cause cracking--literally !
