It is a good thing to progress through stages and roles in life.

Child > Parent
Single > Married
Parent > Grandparent
Student > Teacher
Apprentice > Master
Employee > Boss

Etc…

If you find that you are not progressing into higher roles it is a pretty clear indication that something is deeply wrong in your life.
