Sounds interesting! I believe that most of the modern products today are only improvements to the corporate bottom line. I did make 2 substitutions, boiled linseed oil for raw linseed oil and mineral spirits for turpentine. Raw linseed and turpentine are more traditional. They are just more expensive and harder to find in large quantities.
