I was going to do a response to this, decided it wasn't worth my time. Then was curious about why you felt so inclined to continue to poke fun at a stranger on the internet. Thought something clearly ...
That was a truly nice response to my contributions here which warrants a reply.
You could again re-read this thread, you should! And take it both as flippant or some internet stranger taking jabs and see what you think; but let me clear up the intention for you from the source.
You gaining a life isn’t a jab, that’s the truth and I laid that out with my point about what you will hand down to your family.
I’m not some anti-gamer, I’ve played loads of games and still enjoy them occasionally even now with the baby. But they are entertainment; I’m not gonna hand down my RDR2 save in my will. The millions of dollars I have in GTAV won’t be bequeathed.
That was time I wasted before I had kids. And you won’t hand down your Pokémon achievements either.
My daughter will sit with me whilst I play 20-30 minutes before dinner some nights and go from fascinated watching, to wanting to eat the joysticks on my controller to smacking me in the face with whatever toys are nearby and that’s worth more to me than anything in any game. I don’t get in a zone any more, I pause when she wants attention and play with her instead.
Right now I’m planning a big dinner for Oktoberfest; I’ll cook for 4 families and the kids and I’m working out invites. I nixed a German guy and his wife and daughter because he doesn’t pay attention to his girl the way the other fathers care about their kids.
Having a kid, I literally couldn’t countenance having some bloke who would rather fuck around on his phone (ie animal crossing or whatever shit you’re worried about) than spend time with his kid.
Not some “you must spend 100% of your time with your kid” rant, moreso I just can’t see myself having this guy at my house, drinking my beer, eating this feast which I will spend 3 days preparing so my kid can experience my culture with others who value that culture, to have someone who can’t control their own impulses and would rather play fucking games than with their kid. Why would I want him here? What’s the reflection on my daughter who doesnt see my on my phone constantly when he is?
Play your games. Enjoy the distraction. Realise that’s what they are, like any other media.
I’m saying; enjoy your kids every time the choice is between gaming and them. Go for a walk. Fix something. Build something. Play with them. Teach them. Just put your attention with them.
That stuff and more is going to last much longer than your gaming history.
Your tombstone won’t list your Pokémon achievements.
Anyway thankyou for going and reading my notes and realising I wasn’t just some bitter cunt, and for replying and realising I wasn’t just trying to one up you.
But please stop worrying about something as ephemeral as gaming. Go be with your kids who don’t care abou that stuff.
ut games if youve got kids and
