The MV Hondius is currently stuck in limbo. The cruise company's intention to sail to the Canary Islands was thwarted when the Canaries failed to approve permission to dock.

Now 149 passengers plus crew are moored off the coast of Africa. They're not allowed to leave the ship which has three suspected hantavirus cases on board. There is no vaccine for hantavirus.

Massey's Prof David Hayman says the passengers will likely need to remain isolated for close to two months.

"I have good news and bad news. The good news is your cruise has been extended by two whole months. The bad news is... some of you may die."
