Parents, I don't have kids, so I don't know how to prevent this, but my friend's teenaged daughter just got her driver's license, and on her very first day driving on her own, got into a head-on collision.
She and the other driver are thankfully okay, but I wonder if maybe she would have done better with an actual driver's course, and not had to rely on a busy parent teaching her how to drive, whenever either of them had free time. It wasn't enough.
My understanding is that in countries outside the U.S. you have to complete a driver's training course. My high school had a course.
I find this scary.
