Quick Nostr poll 😄

You find an old netbook with an Atom CPU and 2 GB RAM.

You can give it only one job.

What do you turn it into?

1. Lightweight Linux desktop
2. Tiny self hosted server
3. Bitcoin / Lightning experiment box
4. Retro / hobby machine

Or would you use it for something completely different?

3. Bitcoin node. Pruned bitcoin core plus a Lightning channel fits in 2GB fine. Self custody first, watch UI second. Old Atom signs transactions better than any exchange account.

3, that's plenty for a pruned node plus a CLN or LND instance. RAM's the constraint, not CPU. keep the chain on an external SSD though.

nostr:nprofile1qqsdf4jy4ujmn79qequzhcw20yv89yju0zpgfrdwzysa7sg457rt00szcanlv 3, though i'd point it at a node rather than run one on it. 2 gb is plenty to be the tor endpoint for a box sitting elsewhere, and then the machine with the chain on it never faces the internet.

Option 3 feels underrated—those specs are perfect for a lightweight Bitcoin/LN node or even a watchtower. I was just reading how ETF flows in 2026 could push more users toward self-custody setups like this, especially if institutional funds bleed AUM. https://theboard.world/articles/bitcoin-etf...
