A common misconception: miners don’t mine Bitcoin. They mine blocks.

The Bitcoin they receive is a byproduct of successfully mining a block, consisting of the block subsidy plus any transaction fees.

well, it's not that miners "receive a reward" from someone else because the block is valid.. the subsidy information is inside the block itself, it's intrinsic to the valid hash they found through work. i'd argue it's not wrong to say they mined those bitcoins (together with the whole block)
