Very happy to announce to all of my #hamradio enthusiasts that after months of work and redesign, the next version of #HAMSTR has been launched!

Whats new:

Bug fixes, and a complete refactoring and redesign of the client and server side backend system allowing for new protocols and , serial port connections, and and timing optimizations for packets.

It now has much more robust logging, error correction and some speed improvements with better the new data flows.

But the key is the new modular system now allows for VARA HF (not fm yet) client and server connections. While a bummer VARA HF is not open source, those in the ham data space know how amazing it is. Much higher speeds and robustness are now possible.

All features of HAMSTR now work on Packet Radio and Vara, including zaps and Kind 1 note standard features.

The new backend now allows for much easier implementation of different protocols and supported ham data modes like FLDIGI(working on it now) and reticulum network support(coming soon!) Other protocols in the future like ardop can also now easily be added in the future adding to the feature set.

Check out : https://github.com/LibertyFarmer/hamstr for the full details and to install.

HAMSTR can be used on VHF/UHF or HF radio with no major changes using a standard KISS TNC and packet protocols. I use it all the time on VHF within about 7 miles of the server while out offraoding and camping.

NOTE: this is still a power/technical user install and setup, but getting better. See the full readme for help or reach out on nostr replies here or DM.

This is still a run both client and server type setup until more users come on board, but for now I am currently running a varahf hamster server on 7.120mhz on 40 meters with 50 watts. Give it a shot and try to connect! It is based in Northern Arizona on a dipole if that helps. Competes with the CW and data people sometimes, so just keep trying. It should be reachable within the southwestern US easily, and likely at night much further, depending on band conditions.

Its time for @Marty Bent and @ODELL to get their ham license! LFG

Pretty fantastic! Thank you for developing it.

BTW, on the README there is some confusion and offline should be offgrid. In case you are able to post a video of you using those setup on the woods, even better. Really curious to see how it is used on the ground.
