Just think about the exclusion of women in many countries where they are not allowed to own their own money or inherit. Kenya as an example.

The USA and China are the financial patriarchs towards all smaller indebted countries via their credit schemes.

I can see how it would give women in that situation you describe more freedom, although I don’t know anything about Kenyan society and culture so I can’t comment on the specifics.
