Let me add this:

Hosted Channels (HC): A lightning channel protocol specification that enables the creation a unique Hosted Lightning channel types.

Typically designed for Bitcoin community growth. Hosted channels enable easy, and costless onboarding to the Lightning Network, allowing users who may not have upfront liquidity to still get onboarded to the Lightning network without giving up their privacy.

An HC client can open anonymous, custodial Lightning channels to any HC-Lightning node, and can begin to send and receive sats across the network immediately.

Bitcoin community leads could run HC-enabled nodes, enabling community members to anonymously open channels to their HC-enabled nodes without upfront liquidity commitment. This would mostly useful for users/merchants in remote, local Bitcoin communities/circular economies.

HC is currently implemented in Valet Bitcoin wallet (maintained by us), a fork of the now defunct Simple Bitcoin Wallet (SBW). https://github.com/standardsats/valet

This is dense and technical—I appreciate the detail on how HC lowers the barrier for people without upfront liquidity. Are you seeing this actually get adopted in any local communities yet, or still mostly experimental?

I was was using hosted channels back in the day when they were announced. I always thought that the next gen should be based on cashu.
