Orwell feared they’d ban books. Huxley feared no one would want to read them. Orwell feared they’d hide the truth. Huxley feared the truth would drown in irrelevance. Neil Postman argued in 1985 that Huxley was winning. Both men would agree on one thing. The first casualty is the family, because the family is the only institution the state did not create and cannot fully control.

Postman’s work on framing technology is excellent and sadly the Technopoly he describes (way before AI) is growing more insidious. I do an entire section in my book on this topic and discuss his thesis. Time to be, as he suggests, a Loving Resistance Fighter!
