I had a look: So the notifications come from comments under an article. These kind1111 replies are on the primal relay; They don't show up when you go to the article via Primal. When you comment on an article primal does so via kind:1. I suspect its primal derping on kind:1111

Our caching service does not yet support kind 1111, so these notifications exist but you just can’t seem them on Primal yet. We’re working on making them available soon, so stay tuned.
