Nostr is an eternal dispute between people who trust relay policies and talk to whatever keys are there, and those who only trust follows and use whatever relays those keys are using.

Do you trust relays to pick whom you can talk to, or do you trust your follows directly?

The best cure? Don't trust anyone!

Aren't all common relays full of crap? I mean, your only solution is to just read who you follow, right?

Sir, this is a Wendy's. Just make it work.

Crypto can be rewarding if approached the right way. Learning from trusted sources and using verified platforms is key. With the guidance of Robert Oliver on WhatsApp +44 7459 127100

“Followers” is a fiat virus. It’s best if we do not even have some of the old metrics.

Trust no one.

I don't know, I don't really understand relays, I just add a bunch of them and hope they work I only care about them not deleting my old notes which they do so I use citrine and store my notes on my website until relays become more smart

Follows directly

Either way, users have to trust relays. If I'm only trusting my follows to decide what I see, there's a layer of disconnect between me and the relays that I need to trust. For me, the answer is a mix of both.

Atm I trust relay policies. I do not want to spend the time to figure this out and monitor it. And I do not think I will trust those I follow, since I press the follow button without thinking.

So should we just become Mastodon?

Yes.

Are there cases of relays filtering some "unwanted" messages that a user publishes? I haven't thought about it before, but would expect so. In that case, how does one ensure that all of one's messages get through? Publish to multiple relays?

I dunno, I haven't understood Nostr since things went outbox. Coming from the Fediverse, I understood Nostr as relay focused. Like Mastodon, only you send to multiple instances vs just one that can censor you.

I’m very new here and I don’t have idea how Nostr works… 😒

trusting follows shifts the bottleneck from relays to your attention curation. your social graph becomes the firewall instead of a relay's policy file.
