I used to have a landlord that accepted PayPal and I paid my rent that way. I don't remember there being a fee to pay somebody with a EFT transaction. There was a debit card fee but it was like 2.5%. I guess they've raised their fees over the years. I haven't used it since 2018.

The fee racket is a mess, they even charge you if someone sends you money unasked and then charges it back (can be up to a $20 fee) On normal transactions, the fees can depend on the currency (if sending to someone in another currency), and then friends and family vs goods and services.
