Its going to be up to clients for nostr to advertise in an effort to onboard ppl. But then there has to be a reward/return for that effort.
Legacy platforms use ads to make money and monetized your attention.
Are nostr clients going to copy that?
Id like to think you could do it for bitcoin related products but ppl dont care about bitcoin, (yet?).
So, how can you sell nostr to the public to make it attractive enough for them to move over here?
You would need another wave of censorship, a new pandemic, a new propaganda narrative to fight, anything that the public would be outraged about. And even then they might just like to complain and say in their little guided cages.

I always wondered this. Not sure if it would work.
But can crowdfunded ads work?
Someone creates an account, and every zap they get gets funneled into different ad systems.
It might work. Youre going to run into the same problem over and over though. Everyone wants a return on investment. Otherwise we are just hoping for philanthropic acts to get shit done. Its a wierd place to be as someone who is educated about money and economics.
Peers arent likely to listen to other peers if they have been conditioned to listen to authority. Ppl are used to being told what to do, and they like it.
One of nostrs main problems to get end users is its decentralized nature. There ia no central agency that can hold a meeting to decide on expenses allocated to marketing campaigns.

Offer solutions to existing complaints that exist on legacy platforms. And a good advertising campaign in the right avenues.
