This is awesome. Making it easier to get people over here is crucial. There are so many people I talk to about nostr that aren’t willing to take the leap. This should give them the springboard they need to actually do it!

I was chatting with friends about Sat Sorter and what we’ve been working on. When I mentioned that Sat Sorter is free and open-source, they were puzzled about why I didn’t charge for it. Frankly, I’ve considered ways to make money from Sat Sorter, and maybe one day I’ll find a way to profit from it, but the incentives need to be right.

The way things are set up is really important, which is why Sat Sorter is free for everyone to use. This is crucial as it incentivizes users to adopt freedom technology, not pay for another subscription.

With regular budgeting apps, they often make you pay a subscription to unlock extra features. On one hand, that’s fair—the user likes the extra features and is willing to pay for them. However, the incentives are off. The user is incentivized to pay a fee, and the company is incentivized to use a subscription model and, in some cases, sell the users’ data for more profit. These incentives are twisted and make things worse for the user.

With Sat Sorter, we’ve designed our incentives to be better. Anyone can use Sat Sorter for free, without any payments or subscriptions. So, if you use Sat Sorter, you won’t have to spend more money to access its best features. Instead, we incentivize users to adopt open-source tools and freedom technology, like Nostr and NWC. If you’re interested in these great features, you don’t need to pay Sat Sorter for them; instead, you can adopt these empowering technologies at no cost to you. The incentive for Sat Sorter is more freedom technology adoption for everyone. It’s truly a win-win.

Couldn’t agree more. What we’ve done with Sat Sorter is use NWC for automatic transaction imports. It works similarly to Fiat budgeting apps that use a Plaid connection with a bank. The neat part is though, Sat Sorter is completely private, has zero access to user data, is decentralized with Nostr relay backups, and best of all helps you budget your sats as you pay for things with the best money on Earth.
