also look at the past - lots of original cypherpunks were financially independent, from dotcom boom to running businesses, they had the means to do what they wanted.

There is the other side of this too - open source projects were passion projects, some grew big, some stayed niche. In nostr lots of this was skewed by grants - people building projects because of grants and then abandoning them when the grants run out.

Sure, open source has tons of funding issues cuz you have libraries that are supporting entire ecosystems with barely surviving maintainers. But theres also tons of projects that exist purely because people are pursuing "open source grant collector" as a carreer choice, not because they desperately want to build that specific thing for themselves

nostr.eu / nostr.ae / nostr.at have been a bit spotty lately (more and more traffic), i've deployed more infra for the gateways now and round robin it

generally the problem is fetching the events from relays, not serving the amount of requests as it hits relay rate limits

hopefully it will be a bit better now, lmk if you see any less timeouts on them
