I believe Putin knows the war cannot be won this way, but he views terror as a tool to keep the camp together. It is also a powerful message to the enemies.

In this aspect even the Ukrainian attacks on Russian infrastructure is a tool in the hands of the propaganda.

But jokes aside, the contract should outline acceptable payment methods as well, I guess.

But seriously, it represents an old dilemma: should an ethical entity extend the effect of ethics to unethical entities?

Jesus said: "whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also".

Buddha: "Irrigators regulate the waters, fletchers straighten arrow shafts, carpenters shape wood, and the good control themselves."

Dictators are hypocrites. Hypocrisy is the source of their power.

Trump is also a hypocrite.

@nprofile1q... The EU defends its own interests. I think Ukraine is much more important to protect than Venezuela.

But by the same logic, we can hope other South American countries will cheer as much on the invasion on Venezuela than the Russian invasion on Ukraine.

@nprofile1q... makes sense. The key point is economic costs. Comparing to the WWII, there is much reserve in the Russian economy. On the other hand, nobody (even Putin) knows where the thresholds are that, when crossed, Russian unrest starts. I feel the society is already boiling inside.

I believe these are universal system traits, e.g. the Eastern democracies are much more fragile because there has not been many generations who lived in democracy. Systemic changes take time because of the inertia of the thinking of the people.
