Flash, like a lot of things was at the right place at the right time to be popular, it was after the dot com bubble which scared a lot of businessniggers away, and it was before the introduction of the iPhone which brought on the horde of normals. There really wasn't as much of a profit incentive to be on the Internet, so people who posted stuff were often doing it more as a passion project than to make money and you can feel it in the things they make. (Though there are countless flash slop games as well so nostalgia is definitely a factor)
