Spam filtering is layered. Many clients already filter spam, but relays still play big a role.

On Azzamo, the first filter is paid access, which removes most abuse by design. We also rely on a Web of Trust for importing notes. Spam is defined by behavior like flooding, automation, and abuse, not opinions. Using other relays is unaffected; their rules and your client’s filters still apply.

The free relay is rate-limited and may purge data over time, with best-effort uptime.
On the premium relay, payment itself is the spam prevention. It has guaranteed uptime, no rate limits, and no purging.
