Define privacy. Does it mean your identity is hidden, your transaction graph is hidden, or your balance is hidden? These are three different things. Monero hides amounts. Zcash hides the transaction graph. Bitcoin is pseudonymous. Each offers a different kind of privacy. Pick what you actually need.

Define auditability. An open source codebase is auditable. That doesn't mean it's been audited. Or that the audit was competent. Or that the auditors found everything. Auditability is a property. An audit is an event. They are not the same. Don't confuse the potential with the execution.

Define scalability. Does it mean transactions per second, number of nodes, or geographic distribution? A network with high throughput but few nodes is scalable by one definition and not by another. Scalability is a triangle. You can optimize for two corners. You can't have all three.

Define decentralization of governance. Is it token voting, off chain consensus, or core developer authority? Each model produces different outcomes. Token voting favors whales. Off chain consensus favors insiders. Core developer authority favors the founding team. All are decentralized. None are democracy.

Define stable. A stablecoin pegged to the dollar inherits the dollar's instability. The peg is stable. The underlying asset is not. When people say stable, they mean low volatility relative to a benchmark. But the benchmark itself is not stable. It's just familiar.

Define permissionless. Does it mean anyone can transact, or anyone can build? Bitcoin is permissionless as a payment network. Ethereum is permissionless as a development platform. They are different kinds of permissionless. Both are valuable. But they enable different things.

Define volatility. Is it daily price movement, annualized standard deviation, or drawdown from peak? Bitcoin is volatile by daily measure but less volatile by annualized measure than most people think. The metric determines the conclusion. Pick your metric carefully.

Define yield. Is it the nominal return, the real return after inflation, or the risk adjusted return? A protocol offering twenty percent yield sounds amazing until you account for the inflation of the token you're paid in. Yield is not a number. It's a relationship between multiple variables.

Define trust. Some people mean trust in the code. Others mean trust in the institution. These are opposite definitions. Code is deterministic. Institutions are discretionary. When you say 'I trust Bitcoin,' clarify whether you trust the math or the community around it.
