CORMAC McCARTHY died last month at the age of 89. He was the author of one of my favorite books, Blood Meridian, but better known for his filmed novels, All the Pretty Horses, No Country for Old Men, The Road, and Child of God. Just last year he published two new works, The Passenger and Stella Maris.

I never read his longest novel SUTTREE, so over the weekend I set myself to it as a kind of commemoration. Like most of McCarthy's work, it is brilliantly written, dark as pitch, but interfused with the author's particular sense of humor: a Huckleberry Finn set in the 1950s.

One QUOTE to start the week with a smile:
"You know the difference tween a grocery store fly and a hardware store fly? [...] Well, the grocery store fly lights on the beans and peas, and the hardware store fly lights on the nails and screws."
