I've had a bitkey since the beta and think it is a convenient device. However, I have since changed my opinion and no longer encourage using a Bitkey due to its connection with CashApp. I have been a long-term CashApp user, which made the bitkey very convenient for quick swaps to cash. However, one month ago, CashApp suspended my account for an apparent TOS violation. I'm not sure what it could be and their support tewam will not disclose how I violated their TOS. They denied my appeal, so now my account is permanently closed wthout explanation. This connection to a centralized draconian FinTech company is a major weaknesss. It's not a good look for the "not asking for permission" crowd that stores noncustodial bitcoin. It really is a shame, but it has rekindled my love for the coldcard q and taught me an important lesson: bitkey was conveneint insofar as I had access to their centralized exchange (CashApp), but other wallets offer much higher security and features (i.e., BIP-85, etc) for less. Buy a Coldcards Q instead.

Just be aware that if you intend on linking it with cash app, they have a penchant for suspending accounts for purchasing federally legal products (like kratom or kava) and claim it is a violation of the TOS. Ive used cash app for many years, and bought my girlfriend some kratom and then they cancelled my account, bounced my tax refund checks, and refuse to budge on the appeal.

Moral of the story: buy a coldcard q and use robosats instead. It's a shame, since Block is doing great work on the bitcoin front, you just need their permission...

In what terms did the closure of your Cash App account affect your keys on bitkey? I understand your frustration, but isn’t this rather a critique on Cash App?
