In the US, they don't have A4 paper, they have size A paper, which is based off of Letter.

We stick to Letter paper here for a reason. Don't go trying to introduce those fancy metric measurements at the job site unless you want to spend all day recalculating.

Actual interesting fact. Although I don't think the 'A' standard is strictly metric, you can take any size (A4,A3 etc.) and divide the long side by the short side and you get √2. Also, if you fold A0 in half, you get A1, fold that on half you get A2, etc.
