I haven't forgotten and people should not forget. But there probably is some sort of psychological phenomenon where people put bad experiences out of their minds and try to not think about them. I'm sure there's a psychological term for this.

it's called deferment. it's what happens when your fight or flight circuits activate from trauma triggers. it keeps you alive. mine took 48 years to come to a crisis that mandated addressing them.
