This is the entire dataset I could find of merchants that accept both, find me more and I'll gladly report on them. Theres no selection bias, in fact most of these merchants are biased towards other c...

You're hinting at another point that I find fascinating from your data: that most Bitcoin users transact on-chain and not through LN. That is surprising, and more than a little stupid of them. LN will give you all of the same advantages as Monero (though not to the same degree, I'll admit) and is by far the most common way to transact in Bitcoin. At least in all of the Bitcoin economies I've seen.

So your anecdotal data conflicts with my anecdotal data in at least 2 ways. Who is correct? We'll need more data to say definitively.

One thing is for sure: I'll definitely mention your interesting numbers in future conversations.

I didn't provide anecdotal data. Lightning only has good sender privacy in a very niche and complicated LND setup with careful UTXO management and IP obfuscation. Most use custodial or Lighting Service Provider solutions which have very poor privacy, worse than on-chain in many cases.

that IS interesting. but I suspect that it's because most people hold Bitcoin as an investment and only occasionally spend. so there's no reason for them to have sats on LN. we exist in a very niche bubble.
