It’s well written and I understand it but I feel like it completely ignores the phenomenon of technology’s ability to reduce scarcity.

The other way this story could have turned out and the one that I personally prefer is that you find two rabbits and breed them or create a farm to create some form of food abundance. From this, with all the extra food you offer some to the coyote in exchange for night watch and extra protection which becomes a dog.

The food scarcity view in my opinion is heavily weighted in the short term result (the win situation is eating the rabbit but the same problem comes up tomorrow). While the food abundance view takes a longer term outlook (the win is food security, the ability to gather more resources, experiment without dying, and an ever stronger organism).

Im curious to hear your view on this.
