I don't get why people like these companies that sell you gift cards and similar stuff for Bitcoin and make you pay more than you would pay if using fiat. Is the goal to make Bitcoin look inferior?

I don’t use them but It’s because people are using them to evade capital gains taxes. That’s why they have a market demand.

That explains it. In any case they (and their supporters) should be more upfront about it, and not claim they charge no fees. Charge fees, be clear about the fees you're charging.
