Agreed, as I understand it - & I'm not a tech guy - core wants to keep the spam in a certain area (op_return) to keep it away from the utxo area. At least, that's the official argument.

Yes the thing we can all agree on is that this debate is great for bitcoin. Like you said let's see if we are just a bunch of morons who just blindly follow directions or if we question them thoroughly!
I swinged my idea back and forth in the last 2 weeks, but in the end I'm switching to knots to send a signal.
