What about if you want to gain muscle and lose weight though?

Pretty sure you are going to get all sorts of advice. In the end just start based on what you know and adjust your course as you go. That’s because there is no one size that fits all. My biased opinion though is to start with developing the skills involved in loosing weight, through diet and eating habits. The mental wrestle of an intentionally built diet and how much you consume will encompass all of the necessary food related skills for when you want to build muscle.
