I read Digital Fortress 20 years ago. I found it entertaining, definitely a page turner, the details a bit preposterous, but a fun read.

Where cryptography is today is much different than the turn of the Melania. "Experts" still claim that super computers will break crypto, yet quantum computing still has issues with simple tasks.

Brown gave the subject cursory research in order to develop plot. Websites at the time of writing, were vastly http and lacked the SSL layer. Now everything is encrypted, mutifactored and authenticated.

At the book's time, the internet was the wild wild west, adding credence to its allure. The book was timely, but in hindsight, it was off base, maybe not even in the right ball park.

Were Brown to write the book today, it would be different.
