It is clear why they do it. Not because it's for adults, but because they want to know which of their citizens writes which posts. France has long had no freedom - they did the same with Telegram. It's best for everyone to use an anonymous VPN.

do we need age verification to registered profile on social media ? do we need age verification to buy alchohol on the store ? do we need driving licence to drive a car ? do we need building permit to build in our own land ? with our own money .. life so much simplier back then without permission...

everything that taken away your right , shifting your entitlement from your own to the government is worth questioning , if you have energy for that .
