He is a complete novice, so for him opening a port in his ISP supplied router to letting me in is meh.

I read about Rustdesk

I can stretch it so far and maybe sylvie (spelling?) and wireguard ( i am a huge fan of Wireguard)

I mean we are using *Nix Nix* 🤭
