For me it's how notes are shown. Different apps show notes in different ways. Some will only show you their posts, others mix in replies or separate those in a separate tab. Some show the replies on the main tab, but will also show the what their replying to for context, and I think there was one where it only show replies if someone you follow if it's a reply to someone else you're following.
