Shouldn't first class be in the rear of airplanes because that has a higher survival rate in crashes?

Not always. IIRC Air India for example struck tail first due to a positive nose attitude. There are some studies about this, I think the best seats are in the middle-ish, but still thin chances of survival.

Plane crashes are so rare it's not even worth thinking about. I had a psycho boss (for other reasons) who would book out plane tickets in the back based on Lopp's reasoning and it always felt like psychotic behaviour rather than a legit strategy for anything.
