The U.S. has the highest incarceration rate in the world of about 2 million people, many of them are mother's that are sole caretakers of children.

Whenever this subject comes up I would like to remind people that in other places assassination, murder, executions and disappearances; all without trial, are more common. So at least when you are incarcerated you have a life to advance verses an abrupt sentence.
