The doomers are worried about evil AGI.

But moral knowledge, is just another kind of knowledge, like aesthetic knowledge or knowledge about math.

Our moral knowledge can grow, and has been growing over time.

For example most of the world feels slavery is wrong now. We gained that knowledge just like we gained knowledge about prime numbers. How? Popper say it is through "conjectures and refutations". It's a fancy way of saying we make intelligent guesses and criticize them.

So somehow, the doomers think that AGI is just going to be incredibly good at creating knowledge about everything EXCEPT morality.

Here is a question: what if the AIs create more moral knowledge than we do? What if they become more moral than we are?

Can you believe that AIs make breakthroughs in Chess and Go and Physics and Maths and Biology, but somehow can't make breakthroughs in Morality?

Is it moral to stop machines that can help us learn about what is moral?

I think I agree but to me these questions just put in sharp focus how "wobbly" of a concept AGI actually is. Silicon valley types just use "intelligence go up" graphs to describe this, but that's not enough. Intelligence != action. The smartest AI will just sit there until someone prompts it. It ha...

AI can be easily a disinformation and demoralization tool and people are afraid of that imo. But it can also be a good wisdom source and can be installed morality and faith. I do that kind of work. Ultimately it is a technology and if good ones don't use it the playing grounds are left to bad actors...

by your estimation the smartest people in the world should also be the most moral, but history teaches a different lesson. morality is something felt, not thought of. a smart psychopath can commit horrifically immoral acts without feeling.

Machines are going to lead with whatever is fed into them. Morality requires a soul, which no machine can ever have.

Because it is either 0 or 1, they are called weights for a reason, and the moral margin is all in between these 2.
