Yeah, I actually tried going in that direction. I managed to get LND and lightning.pub running on the netbook, so technically it can work. The part where I got stuck was much simpler: I didn’t have enough sats to actually fund a channel and test real Lightning activity, so the setup just stayed there waiting 😄 But the experiment at least showed me that this old Atom machine can handle more than I expected.
