The schooner Enterprize brought the first permanent European settlers to the Yarra River in August 1835 to establish what became Melbourne.

The expedition was funded by Tasmanian businessman John Pascoe Fawkner, though Fawkner himself was forced to stay behind in Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) due to his creditors.
