@nprofile1q... When I personally was researching BlueSky I found out basically the same that Dorsey said. It wasn't really decentralized.
I really don't remember how it's properly called, but it's identity registry was centralized. And it's Github repo was literally saying "yes, we now it's not decentralized, maybe we make it so in the future".
So all that hype about new decentralized social network was just a window dressing.
Can's say anything about ATProto itself, but it came out of BlueSky and it's partially legitimizes it and makes it look better, so I'm not sure what to think about it.
For me personally it doesn't matter who says something if it's the truth. Be it a billionaire or anyone else. Unfortunately I came to the same conclusion a ~year before I discovered that Dorsey is not at the board of BlueSky anymore, and that he said all that 🤷
