I did not like it either, but for different reasons. They tried to portray a 60’s and 70’s era communist revolutionary as this goofy dope fiend with a good heart trying to raise his daughter the right way. A proper understanding of the history of this era shows these people were insanely violent, with the blood of innocents on their hands. To make things worse, they ended up in leading positions in academia and politics (e.g. Angela Davis, Bill Ayers), not as outcasts. Lockjaw character is a caricature of leftist tropes about their adversaries.
