The CMB is in fact the breath of an ice-breathing mutant space goat who will destroy the universe if @Raison d'État is not at once made global dictator of Earth.

But people will continue prefer the simpler explanation, as long as it fits all the observable data they know of.

Sad.

But not magical thinking, just competing hypotheses, and Occam's Razor.
