Finished Super Metroid Rotation (hack)!!
Boy, what a ride that was. Turning the world 90° clockwise really makes a difference in how the game is played. Wall jumping is necessary from the start and many longer horizontal rooms (and this game dramatically highlights their presence) become traps, often lethal ones. The thing that killed me most often was magma. There must be something about the way magma is programmed where it rises to such-and-such a y- value, because many of the normally horizontal rooms containing magma had it nearly to the top in this sideways version of Zebes. As a respite, the grapple beam is rendered useless making for an early and easy visit to Phantoon, and all of the bosses excepting one were ridiculously easy with the new layout. Kraid was about the same level of difficulty without adequate platforms to mount for easy firing. Like the magma, Ridley must be programmed to hover around a particular Y-axis; as a result, he merely floated around eye-level for Samus and was a sitting duck.
Overall, not a terribly exciting hack, but it's quite a unique and well-executed idea. 5/10. Not recommended for anyone but unusually masochistic fans of platformers.
