Thinking of the hundreds of 2nd hand #scifi paperbacks I read between ages (rough) 11 to 17 and pondering why I read almost exclusively that genre. It was 95+% SciFi then too, only a smidge of crossover into fantasy, supernatural or horror.
Asimov, Clarke, Silverberg, Niven, Herbert, Heinlein, Harrison etc etc etc.
It was the focus on the story, plots, ideas and concepts. The lack of much back story to the characters or the exposing of their inner selves (much criticised) was what I liked! 😂 💕
