I don't recall any proposals getting to the planning stage. However Alistair Porter has been making noises for over a decade about running a gondola from Remarkables Park to the Remarkables skifield.
Since National began fast-tracking everything, there's been Drury's failed Coronet Peak proposal, and another from an Aussie surgeon to stick gondolas up Fernhill and the back of Bowen Peak. The latter threatens to add a new skifield, hundreds of houses and retail.
Suddenly every man and his dog wants to build gondolas.
