when studying Scripture: do not ask, 'what does this mean **to** me?' -- ask, 'what does this mean **for** me?' -- but only after asking, simply, 'what does this **mean** ?'

That's one thing I don't like about group Bible studies amongst laypersons. I can't stand going around a circle and sharing "what this verse means to me" (and no one can ever be wrong).
