contemporary queer/trans discourse, sexuality and identity is the result of a project of repressive tolerance resulting in the conversion of a group of deviants into a group of patients that gleefully become another species of database animal: the proliferation of encyclopediae of fetishes, identities proliferating with their pride flag and obsessive pedantry about who is what, the efflorescence of gender-as-expression/speech act (and not actual way of being-in-the-world) all acts to make desire canalized, legible, and most importantly, recuperable by the system; faggots became straight when corporations sponsored pride parades. few "queers" nowadays (and let's face it, all femme in some way) are left out of the maniacal act of detournement the neoliberal (the ultimate kind of database animal) state apparatus has applied to queer culture in the quest to annihilate it as a culture. the thorbbing discourse from tumblr to academia allowing itself to be encoded (nailed down, drained of its organic negativity) and reconstituted as a cudgel to use against those fighting against hegemony, external and internal. trans women, femmes of all genders, and those involved in 'extreme' practises will tend to be kept on the other side of the fence, both because such identities cannot be made useful other than as something to mark the limits and due to their inherent tendency to cast doubt on the database (left-brained, obsessed with making the world reflect its own structure, strictly instrrumentalist) view of the world
ultimately, as with nuclear war, the only way to 'win' this game is refuse to play it
